Classification of cars according to shape

There are different types of shapes available for cars and based on the change of shape in cars we call different names for them.

Car shapes changes based on the arrangement for 3 main compartments which are available in car , they are Engine compartment ,Passenger compartment and boot compartment.

VAN/1 BOX

Van category vehicles are 1 box vehicles which have all the three compartments(Engine compartment,Passenger compartment and Boot compartment) are eclosed together in a single box. Normally VAN type vehicles will have their engine under the co-driver seat . Van type vehicles are versatile which can be used for personal and commercial purposes like Cargo, Ambulance etc..

eg:- Omni, Eeco,Supro van, Winger etc…

HATCHBACK/2 BOX

Hatchbacks are 2 box vehicles which has Engine compartment is seperate but Passenger and Boot compartments are enclosed together. These types of cars are mainly used as passenger cars

eg:- Swift, Alto, WagonR,i20,Figo,Micra etc..

SEDAN/3 BOX

Sedan type cars have 3 seperate compartments for Engine, Passenger and Boot. These types of cars will have dedicated boot compartment when compared to other category cars

eg:- Dzire, Ciaz, Verna, CIty,Etios etc…

SUV-Sports Utility Vehicle

SUV category vehicles usually comes in a shape which is engine will be seperate but boot and passenger compartments are enclosed together, but when compared with hatchbacks , SUVs are taller and bigger. SUVs have bigger tyres, high ground clearance, powerful engine and SUVs will have 4 wheel drive system in all variants or in any of its variants.SUVs are mainly used for off roading purposes.

eg:-Gypsi, Mahindra Thar, Scorpio, Bolero, Fortune,Jeep etc…

MUV- Multi Utility Vehicle

MUV means Multi Utility Vehicle usually comes in a shape which engine is seperate but passenger and boot compartments are enclosed together, but when compared with hatchbacks MUVs are taller and longer, MUVs will have 3 row seatings which can accomodate 7-10 passengers . MUVs are mainly used for the purpose of passenger transportation.
