AIS 145 safety norms

Indian government is now going the make AIS(Automotive Industry Standards) 145 norms compulsory for all passenger cars and also N category goods carriage vehicles. This will ensure the passengers are more safe when compared with the older models.

Now it is mandatory for all the passenger cars to have speed alert system, Driver side airbag, driver side and co-driver side seatbelt reminder,Manual over riding for central locking system. In addition to this vehicle reverse parking alert system shall be applicable to all M and N category vehicles as defined in AIS 053 norm.

Also Child lock safety system will be removed from M category transport vehicles (Taxi segment)

  • Driver side airbag
  • Driver and Passenger side seatbelt reminder
  • Speed alert system
  • Manual overriding for central locking system
  • Reverse parking system
  • Removal of Child safety locks on the rear doors of M1 category transport vehicles(Taxi)

Driver and Co-driver seatbelt reminder

If the driver and co-driver side passenger are travelling in the car and if they are not wearing the seatbelt , this system will show the light on cluster to wear the seat belt and also there will be a buzzer which makes sound till the driver and co driver wears the seatbelt.

Speed alert system

When the vehicle crosses the speed of 80 km/h the speed alert system make beep sound twice in a minute and if the speed goes even beyond 120 km/h the beep sound will continuously warn the passengers and the sound will turn off only when the speed comes below 120 km/h

Manual overriding for central locking system

For the vehicles come with central locking system, passengers should be able to open the door without the help of driver. Even at the time of electric power failure the passengers should be able to exit the car which is having central lock.

Reverse parking system

Reverse parking system is for the safety of person standing behind the car at the time when car is in reverse gear, especially if it is a child which cannot be seen through IRVM here reverse parking system helps to go reverse safely.

Child safety lock to be removed from M category Transport vehicles

Passengers travelling on a taxi car in the rear seat must be able to exit the car by using inside door handles, but if the child safety lock is equipped it will not be possible and the door can be opened only from rear.

In addition to this Almost all car manufacturers have made ABS and EBD also as standard across all their variants which is also going to be mandatory very soon.
